The teaching division of CEAD

An introduction to our teaching programme

  • T

he Centre offers a range of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Those at the undergraduate level focus on rural resource management and reflect the Centre’s commitment to a transdisciplinary, action-based learning approach. Learners cover a range of issues from rural wealth creation to engaging communities in the management of their own projects.

The postgraduate programme focuses on a post grad diploma and a series of course work masters programmes. These are a Post Grad Diploma (PGDip) in Rural Resource Management (RRM), a Masters Programme (M Ag) in Extension and Resource Management (ERM) and the Master of Environment and Development (MEnvDev). The MEnvDev has three streams, that of Environmental Management (EM), Land Information Management (LIM) and Protected Area Management (PAM).

Entrance into CEAD Programmes is governed by the rules of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and the Faculty of Science and Agriculture.

  • The Faculty of Science and Agriculture handbook is available on the UKZN Website.
  • International students should go to the UKZN International website for relevant information pertant to their studies in South Africa. and information on International Fees is available on the Prospective Students web page.
  • The fees handbook is available on the Prospective Students web page.

In delivering these programmes we ensure that graduates are equipped with confidence in their professional and individual leadership skills and the experience of having participated and contributed to dynamic team work. In short, our graduates must be lifelong learners, committed to excellence in their professional lives based on their learning with us. We have a strong track record of graduates who now hold senior positions in a range of development, environmental and agricultural organizations within many African countries. In so doing they are pioneering new ways of resolving critical environmental and social problems.
